Welcome to Linn County Physical Therapy
Linn
County Physical Therapy began in 1993. Since then we
have grown to meet the needs of our patients and referring
practitioners. Patients come to us from their family
physician, specialist, chiropractor, podiatrist, dentist,
occupational case managers as well as self-referred.
It is not necessary to have a physician’s referral
but many insurance companies require one and we prefer
a referral when possible. To be certain if one is required,
it is best to contact your insurance carrier.
To practice as a Physical Therapist, a Masters Degree
from an accredited college is required. A Physical Therapist
is designated by the initials PT, MPT, MSPT, PhD, and
“DPT”. Many Physical Therapists may have
additional certifications including:
- OCS, SCS, GCS, NCS – This certification indicates
the therapist has additional clinical expertise in
a specialty area. This may be orthopedics, sports,
neurology, cardiovascular and pulmonary, pediatrics
and clinical electrophysiology.
- FAAOMPT – Fellow of the American Academy of
Orthopedic Manipulative Therapists. This certification
refers to additional expertise in manual skills directed
at treating disorders of the spinal and peripheral
joints.
- ATC – Certified Athletic Trainer; This allows
the therapist to evaluate and treat athletic injuries
both on and off the field. Individuals who do not
have a degree in Physical Therapy also hold this certification.
- CSCS – Certified Strength and Conditioning
Specialist; This certification indicates the therapist
has additional clinical expertise designing programs
for developing strength, power, and sport-specific
skills.
Physical
Therapy treatment is directed at restoring function
or developing strategies to compensate for a condition
that may not completely recover. We focus on:
- Evaluation of your symptoms and function
- Education regarding your condition and treatment
plan
- Exercises and functional activities to reduce symptoms
and improve level of function
- Manual Therapy to assist your muscles, joints and
soft tissues to regain normal length and range
You will find information about our staff and programs,
related websites with useful information, and exercise
techniques for many of the more common exercises we
prescribe.
Our mission statement is “Individual
Care by Caring Individuals”.
We hope that you find this to be true
when you visit our clinic.
